Jerusalem. Jesus. Joy (Israel)
In a Nutshell
Helping others is at the core of our mission. Surprisingly, Jerusalem is the perfect place to do so: underneath its touristic, modern day scene lies a warm heart that shines through dozens of meaningful projects. We have hand-picked one of the best ones- an opportunity to help at-risk teenagers, who are fighting daily battles on several fronts (educational, social, economic). We reach out to them at a critical period in their lives, and try to help by making a positive impact. The second focal point for this adventure will be an adventure trip to the Galilee that will lead us on the trail Jesus walked and the meaningful stops along his journey.
Project I.D
Jerusalem will serve as our starting point, and we will spend six days mentoring kids in a special therapeutic school and six afternoons and evenings exploring all that this larger-than-life city has to offer (holy sites, culinary delights, architecture, vibrant culture, etc.). On our way north, a stop in Tel Aviv will give us a first-hand introduction to the Israeli spirit of innovation and its miraculous outcomes. Then we will spend the next five days in the greater Nazareth area and the Sea of Galilee, where we will witness, and be inspired by, the places that were monumental in Jesus’ life and leadership.
Itinerary
Day 1, Saturday: Arrival into Ben Gurion Airport (TLV). Transfer to a boutique hotel, located in one of Jerusalem’s most interesting neighborhoods, historically. Unwind and enjoy the sunset in front of the ancient city walls.
Day 2, Sunday: After a bountiful breakfast, arrive at the school located in the outskirts of Jerusalem for contributional work. Later that day, after a short but well-deserved rest, we will participate in an Israeli Hummus workshop.**
Day 3, Monday: Contributional work in the therapeutic school. At the end of the day, we will have a tour in the German Templer colony, in which our school is located, followed by a festive dinner in one of Jerusalem’s most vibrant avenues.
Day 4, Tuesday: Contributional work in the therapeutic school, followed by a culinary tour in Jerusalem’s most famous market, Machne Yehuda.
Day 5, Wednesday: Contributional work in the therapeutic school. After a break in the afternoon, a “Jerusalem in the Dark” tour will light up our nocturnal senses.
Day 6, Thursday: Final day of contributional work in the therapeutic school. After a moving farewell activity and a good rest, you will have the afternoon free to explore the area on your own and contemplate all of the experiences so far (Jerusalem is a great city for contemplation 🙂 )
Day 7, Friday: Goodbye Jerusalem! Big day with much to cover; hence, an early start. Before arriving to the Galilee, and in order to break up the drive there, we will stop in Tel Aviv, and learn why the locals call it “the State of Tel Aviv.” The anchor for this short stop will be a mind-blowing visit to the Israeli Innovation Center. The Center reveals one of the most important layers in Israel economy today- the Startup Nation- with Tel Aviv at its core. After a quick lunch, we will head to Mount Carmel, to a place associated with one of Elijah’s greatest miracles- El-Muhraqa (“the Sacrifice”). Upon arrival to the Galilee, we will settle into a cozy boutique hotel in Nazareth, and taste the local cuisine in a festive dinner.
Day 8, Saturday: After a great, relaxed breakfast, we will experience Nazareth city and surroundings: We will start with a cultural tour, focused on Nazareth’s history, culture, hidden treasures and present challenges. From the present, we will move back in time for a Biblical, multi-sensory experience, including a Biblical lunch. The super complex, super interesting religious layer of the city will reveal itself next: we will head to Mount Precipice first, and then visit the Church of the Annunciation, the Synagogue Church (where Jesus preached) and finally, the White Mosque.
After a short rest, a gourmet, Arabic dinner will conclude this full day.
Day 9, Sunday: Today (and the remainder of our trip) will be inspired by the “the Jesus Trail.” We will visit Zippori and its archaeological wonder, drive to Cana (the site of Jesus’ first miracle), Mount Tabor and the Basilica of Transfiguration. Then we will visit the Lavi Forest and nurture it by planting our own trees. After this exquisite experience we will arrive at the Sea of Galilee. We will spend the night at an inspiring, tranquil hotel on the lakeside.
Day 10, Monday: This day will be anchored in the Sea of Galilee, with its grace and historical significance. A view of the lake and the Karnei Hittin volcano, from the top of Mount Arbel will ignite our morning. We will then visit Magdala and the Ancient Galilee Boat Museum. Lunch and a mini tour in Ginosar, a genuine Kibbutz, will be humble yet inspiring. Inspired by the hard-working Kibbutz members(who live the paradigm of “the holiness of hard labor”) we will revive our contributional days and go back to being more than tourists. We will help clean the Jesus Trail, freeing it from one of the Devil’s new weapons- plastic and aluminum cans. This will definitely be one of the highlights of this special day. We’ve saved the best for last with a visit to Yardenit baptism site, and the option to participate in a ceremonial immersion in the Jordan River.
Day 11, Tuesday: Our last day will start with a bang- a first hand, super active (and wet) encounter with the Sea of Galilee. After a brief rest and an on-the-go power lunch, we will head to Megiddo’s Knoll, also known as Armageddon (…) to learn about past, present and future battles. This unique location, situated between the Jezreel Valley and Mount Carmel, will serve as a great venue for the end of our meaningful adventure. After a festive, early dinner we will spend our final night relaxing in our hotel on bank of the Sea of Galilee.
Day 12, Wednesday: Transfer to and departure from Ben Gurion airport (TLV).
