Project I.D

This unique adventure combines humanitarian and contributional work in one of Cape Town’s lowest socio-economic townships, and the opportunity to view wildlife in a private game reserve, and marine predators in the ocean. Additionally, you will be taken on a range of guided sightseeing tours to visit the many marvels of the Western Cape and picturesque Garden Route of South Africa. You will be part of a small group of people your age, who share in your enthusiasm for exploring a new country in style and giving back to communities.

Itinerary

Day 1, Monday: Arrival to Cape Town International Airport (CPT). Transport to the lovely ONCE hostel in the heart of the “Mother City.”

Day 2, Tuesday: Guided day tour to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point – part of the Cape Floral World Heritage Site. Both locations are spectacular sights, covered in endemic foliage and home to breathtaking bays, beaches, forests, and rolling green hills and valleys – and all just 60km outside of Cape Town.

Day 3, Wednesday: Contributional work with children in the morning, either at a settlement or pre-school, to build sustainable organic gardens, followed by a visit to the District Six Museum in the afternoon.

Day 4, Thursday: Work with children in the gardens in the morning, followed by an afternoon trip to Table Mountain, one of the New Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Day 5, Friday: Work with children in the morning. A trip to the theatre for dinner and a show in the evening.

Day 6, Saturday: A full-day wine tour, followed by a visit to the quaint town of Stellenbosch, among other attractions.

Day 7, Sunday: Township & Robben Island tour followed by a visit to the waterfront and a harbor walk in the afternoon.

Day 8, Monday: Leave Cape Town and witness the wild beauty of the famous Garden Route. After a full day in off-the-highway roads with stops and magic moments, we will arrive at Botlierskop Game Reserve, our home for the next six days.

Day 9, Tuesday: A full day safari drive in the spectacular reserve, home to the Big 5: elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino. Upon return, a special treat to revive body and soul, followed by dinner.

Day 10, Wednesday: A full-day trip to Oudtshoorn, in which we will visit the Cango Caves, a wildlife ranch, and an ostrich farm.

Day 11, Thursday: A full day in the Botlierskop Reserve including horseback riding in the reserve* and an end-of-day treat.
*Horseback riding can be swapped with an on-foot tour.

Day 12, Friday: A day trip to Mossel Bay – a morning scenic tour of the cliffs and caves, followed by a visit to the aquarium, a breathtaking shark cage dive and lunch on a boat. Dinner at Botlierskop.

Day 13, Saturday: Last day in Botlierskop – full day in the Reserve, a farewell drive in the reserve and a necessary visit to the Spa. Farewell dinner in Botlierskop.

Day 14, Sunday: Transfer to George Airport (GRJ ) for departure.

  • Contributional Work: In Cape Town you will work in a local township or settlement at a pre-school. Some of your tasks may include co-creating vegetable gardens, assisting teachers in the classrooms, participating in outdoor activities, or building/painting the school building. You may also have the opportunity to assist at an educare or children’s play center. In Teniqwa Wildlife Rehabilitation Center you will be partaking in the study of PrediCat behavior, ecology, anatomy and physiology of various animals.
  • Number of participants: Up to 10. international volunteers (Please note that this adventure requires a minimum of 4 participants.)

  • Family Option: This project accepts families with children as young as 5 years old.

What’s Included

  • Accommodations: You will be staying in comfortable accommodations throughout the adventure, including double occupancy, upgraded rooms in a deluxe B&B hostel and a lavish lodge.
    Note: Specific accommodations are subject to change due to local conditions, but will be at the same high standard of comfort as those presented on this page.
  • Food: Days 1- 7- Breakfast and a light lunch (sandwiches), Day 8: three meals are included, Day 9: Breakfast. Day 10: Breakfast and dinner. Days 11-13: three meals are included.
  • Airport Transfers: Airport transfers are included on both arrival and departure days.
  • Support: Comprehensive and professional pre-departure travel guidance, 24/7 GoEco emergency hotline, experienced local field team.

What’s Not Included

Flights, visa (required), travel health insurance, some meals (check itinerary), personal expenses, optional activities on Day 10.

  • Basic level of English
  • Minimal physical fitness and heat endurance
  • Police clearance (due to the participation in projects involving children)
